		 <title>earthcode evening invitation 7PM September 20th</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20120918161327/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;A small area of the forest is set aside, and cleared of large trees,
plants and undergrowth, yet carefully maintaining any remaining
mycelium. Copper and zinc posts are driven into the ground
approximating some kind of grid structure, tapping telluric currents
and acting as simple antennae pooling stray electromagnetic emissions
or even lightning strikes into the earth. An elaborate machinery is
installed, to transform nitrates and minerals from the earth into
acids, and to extract silver and other precious metals from the
earth. Mixed with collected rain water, resulting solutions and waste
products from the extraction process are sprayed and leached out
across the area. Shafts of light penetrating the edges of the cleared
area equally code this embedded landscape.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;The earthcode project proposes an intentionally literal, artistic
series of experimental situations which explore the notion of an earth
computer, a computational device inscribed or doped both on the skin
and on the earth substrate itself.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Earthcode evening presents a short performance and open studio
actively operating in the direction of or towards a sketch for the
earthcodes project.

		 <title>Black death London workshop Tuesday 19th June</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20120614105753/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;For those of you likely to be in London next week or in the future!
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Black death London attempts to reveal the contagious side of substrate; literally scratching a needle, a pickup across the dark earth carted from Whitby to London so many years ago, the vampiric base and carving of all technology.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Deploying the twin methods of excitation and detection, borrowed from Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), the workshop attempts to scry the city's buboes, its electromagnetic plague eruptions, to play back these earth engraving; the stone tape, the message.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Workshop participants will learn the basics of electromagnetics and EVP, actively constructing and customising a scratching/radio broadcast apparatus, before embarking on the aural, energetic exhumation of an historic plague site.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Fee: 25 pounds inc. all materials (travel card additional!)
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Workshop Leader: Martin Howse

		 <title>** Purified Electroworld with Martin Howse 27/28 April 12-18</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20120404144642/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;... We can live forever, in a clean, honest, purified, Electroworld.
[Gravity's Rainbow. Thomas Pynchon]
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Purified Electroworld offers a two day introduction to the very basics
of electronic theory and practice, through practical tuition and
hands-on experimentation.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Participants will learn about the material basis and simple physics of
basic electronic components, and how these materials and parts
function within larger assemblages embedded in the physical world
(electromagnetics, noise, sound, the body).
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;We&#38;Atilde;&#38;cent;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#128;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#153;ll also find out how to read electronic schematics, and translate
these into working circuits using a variety of well-documented
techniques, how to inventively hack everyday consumer devices for
creative mis-use and re-use, and how to troubleshoot and fix our own
built circuits.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Purified Electroworld focuses on basic principles and simple
construction methods which can be adapted to suit the participant&#38;Atilde;&#38;cent;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#128;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#153;s
temperament, and which can form the foundation for future discovery
and active construction. Purified Electroworld is designed to provide
a good basis for any future workshop which involves an electronics
component.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;No prior knowledge whatsoever is assumed. On the second day
participants will construct and adapt a simple scratching transmitter
instrument, or can choose to start working on their own projects.

		 <title>The Crystal World Open Laboratory, CTM12, Berlin, Jan. 30 - Feb. 04. 2012</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20120103121042/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;Open call for participants for a free 6 day laboratory at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien as part of CTM12 with Jonathan Kemp, Martin Howse, Ryan Jordan, and Ralf Baecker.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;The absolute silence of the vegetation along the banks and the deep prismatic glow almost convinced him that the entire earth had been transformed and that any progress through this crystal world had become pointless.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62; J.G. Ballard, The Crystal World.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;The Crystal World Open Laboratory, through various chemical decrystallizations of the digital, returns to the earth redundant electronics, the poisonous support for a synthesised dystopic world, as the recrystallized mineral. Mimicking the often dangerous processes undertaken in the recovery of rare and precious metals by the dispossessed, the Crystal World proposes to expand these world interventions through experimentation in the formation of novel crystal earth geologies aimed to etch unexpected psychophysical distortions and contingencies into our contemporary crystalline cycles.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;During the open laboratory activities will include explorations in earth computing, mineral precipitation, high heat synthetic geology and inductive crystallography, DIY semi-conductor fabrication, water crystal cryptography, anthropocenic fossilizations, kirlian photography, hi-voltage fulgurite construction. On Sunday 5th February there will be a public presentation and performances, with laboratory process to be exposed during an exhibition at Kunstraum Kreuzberg over the following weeks.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Participants take part at their own risk. Experiments will include high heat and highly toxic processes. Some safety gear will be provided but please bring any masks/goggles/labcoats or similar if available.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;No previous experience is necessary although as places are limited preference will be given to those showing a firm interest and commitment to the full six days. Please send expressions of interest to x at xxn.org.uk by the 13th January.

		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20111114121524/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;Inspired by the discovery of four bare, monumental pedestals within the environs of HKW, &#38;Atilde;&#38;cent;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#128;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#152;Monument. Skin. Excavation&#38;Atilde;&#38;cent;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#128;&#38;Acirc;&#38;#153; seeks to probe and expose the local city/skin surface as a blank/monument, a body without symptoms. During the workshop, participants will construct simple devices for the overlay of electromagnetic, underground and skin surfaces to be activated during an experimental walk and dig through Tiergarten.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Further activities will include:
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;ul&#62;
  &#60;li&#62;surface playback and inscription: making recordings on surfaces
  &#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;burying of constructed crypts (inverted monuments to technology, buried symptoms)
  &#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;lichenometry on found monuments: &#60;a href=&#34;http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/date/web/lich.html&#34;&#62;http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/date/web/lich.html&#60;/a&#62;
  &#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;production of forensic reports at key monument locations
  &#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;geomancy (as divination)&#60;/li&#62;&#60;/ul&#62;
&#60;p&#62;As places are limited, please register by contacting Martin Howse m 1010.co.uk. Participation is &#60;em&#62;free&#60;/em&#62;.

		 <title>Field Effect workshop at NK, Berlin Oct 21, 22, 23 2011</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20111011132107/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;Field Effect with Martin Howse
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;A three day workshop actively exploring the effects of electromagnetic fields on living systems; on the human body and the human psyche.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;The effects of complex field interactions with such systems, particularly with the psyche, are largely unknown and open to debate. Field Effect proposes to obtain first-hand,experimental knowledge of these relations, using DIY technologies. Experiments already suggest links between low frequency electromagnetic emissions and experiences of hauntings and UFO sightings.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;The first two days will be devoted to the construction of devices to both generate and measure magnetic fields and to examine the effects of these fields on living systems (such as plants or moulds), and on the body and psyche (measuring skin temperature, skin resistance, heartrate). In parallel, a series of experimental situations will be constructed to provide insights into the interactions between complex spectral ecologies (communication technologies such as wireless networks, mobile phone bases, TV, radio, power lines, motors, all electronic devices) and life.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Participants will learn how to construct simple devices to measure heart rate and skin resistance, how to interface these to software and log/interpret results and how to intervene within electromagnetic space. No previous knowledge of fields required.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Date: Oct 21, 22, 23 2011&#60;br/&#62;
Time: 12:00-19:00&#60;br/&#62;

		 <title>recrystallization colloidal workshop performances. 20 July Berlin 8PM + neon recommendation</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20110720103653/</link>
		 <description>

&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;recrystallization: final night of lo-no amp performances, colloidal dispersion gold and silver drinks and barbeque 8pm+
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Supermarkt Brunnenstrasse 64 -(entry on the side of the building opposite OBI)
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;hr/&#62;
&#60;p&#62;micro_research also recommends the following NK neon workshop:
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Saturday 30th July- Monday 1st August 2011 Workshop 1 Tuesday 2nd- Thursday 4th August 2011 Workshop 2
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;NEON WORKSHOPS JULY/AUGUST 2011&#60;/strong&#62;
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Our aim is to expose, educate, challenge and teach neon as a method of expression and cultural production. We also hope to encourage participants to stretch their methods of thinking when using glass and light. We offer access to a fully functioning neon facility where our award winning makers and artists unravel the mysteries of creating neon light. During our workshops, through one-to-one tuition and group demonstrations, participants will learn the skills of transcribing designs into neon drawings and manipulating glass with flame before filling with gas. The goal is for each participant to leave with a finished work of light that they have designed and made or helped make through directing.
This summer two very special workshops will be held for the first time in Berlin @ NK. Together with Neon Workshops UK will offer participants the chance to unravel some of the mystery concerned with the creating of neon light. Teachers include the UK based master neon maker Julia Bickerstaff and artist Richard William Wheater.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Participants will learn everything from transcribing ideas into neon drawings to filling their glass forms with gas. At the end of the workshop each participant will take home a piece of neon they have designed and helped make or directed in making *(Transformer/neon power supply not included).
This promises to be an energy driven, hands on workshop, and a real once in a lifetime experience. Be prepared to learn and work hard. Experience with glass is not essential. Please get in touch for more information and to reserve a place.

		 <title>recrystallization workshop event. 18-19-20 July Berlin</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.info/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20110628160743/</link>
		 <description>
&#60;p&#62;By some optical or electromagnetic freak, the intense focus of light
within the stones simultaneously produced a compression of time, so
that the discharge of light from the surfaces reversed the process of
crystallization
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;[J. G. Ballard, The Crystal World]
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Recrystallization, three day workshop event, July 18-20, 12pm-7pm+
with final night of lo-no amp performances 9pm+
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Hosted by Supermarkt Berlin, Brunnenstrasse 64, Berlin, with Martin
Howse, Ryan Jordan, and Jonathan Kemp.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;If life itself starts from aperiodic crystals that encode infinite
futures within a small number of atoms, then the digital
crystallization of the flesh by Capital limits these futures to the
point of exhaustion. Recrystallization begins with the double premise
that if computers and the minerals from which they are made are
considered equally crystalline, then the decrystallization of the
digital through positive feedback disrupts and escalates entropy
through their structures and forward into their present pathology,
Capital.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;p&#62;Three sets of concurrent, feedbacking play and activities across three
days:
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;ol&#62;
  &#60;li&#62;Attempting to recover various minerals and metals (including
copper, gold and silver) from abandoned computers through execution of
various volatile and chemical processes. &#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;The re-crystallisation of these minerals in novel arrays using
raw/renditioned mineral assemblies including piezoelectrics, positive
feedback, colloidal dispersions. &#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;The re-purposing and embedding of components and structures within
wider geological and geophysical systems.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;/ol&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The final day of the workshop will be followed by silver/gold drinks

&#60;p&#62;&#38;quot;data is anything in a form suitable for use with a computer. data is
often distinguished from programs. a program is a set of instructions
that detail a task for the computer to perform. in this sense, data is
thus everything that is not program code.&#38;quot;

&#60;/p&#62;&#60;ol&#62;
  &#60;li&#62;computationally generated code and executable data can be considered
both a code and a data, effectively making the above statement a subject
for dispute.  &#60;dl&#62;
