The Power of Pattern explores pattern in man-made and natural environments through the lens of diverse perspectives and disciplines.

Speakers:

Tacit Arrangements - Dietmar Offenhuber

Dietmar Offenhuber is Artist and Researcher in the Senseable City Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has backgrounds in architecture, urban studies and interactive media. His research interests include the perception, representation and organization of urban infrastructures.

Molecules Really Matter - Dr. Joe Schwarcz

Dr. Joe Schwarcz is Director of McGill University's Office for Science and Society, a unique enterprise with a mandate of demystifying science for the public, the media and students.

Aerial Pattern Language - Alex S. MacLean / Landslides a e r i a l p h o t o g r a p h y

Pilot and photographer Alex MacLean has flown his plane over much of the United States documenting the landscape. Trained as an architect, he has portrayed the history and evolution of the land from vast agricultural patterns to city grids, recording changes brought about by human intervention and natural processes. MacLean's photographs have been exhibited internationally.
