Stop, Drop, Repeat: The Painted Work of Marlis Saunders

The DX's first major exhibition on pattern design and this country's first look at the exceptional work by a Canadian Bauhaus pioneer. The exhibition gathers over a hundred works on paper that reflects the broad range of Saunders' career. The exhibit will trace the roots of the Bauhaus school from the early influences of the Arts and Crafts movement and Expressionism, to the design philosophy and international spread of the Bauhaus School.

Presented by Wedge Curatorial Projects in conjunction with the Studio Museum in Harlem. Inspired by Stephen's collaborations with Senegalese basket weavers based in New York and Dakar, and projects with artisans in South Africa, Peru and India, Man Made starts with the traditional basket-weaving process as its core concept and encourages us to reconsider both the conceptual and the aesthetical value of a handmade object, and celebrate traditional skills, techniques and cultures.

CONNECT is open to all currently enrolled post-secondary students studying design at the undergraduate level in the province of Ontario and will allow DX and the Government of Ontario to showcase the winning talent while promoting the importance of universal and accessible design. Students can apply in 6 categories: Architecture, Landscape/urban Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Fashion Design/Apparel.

Gregory Herringshaw is the Assistant Curator in charge of the Wallcoverings Department at the Cooper- Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution, and is the curator of the exhibitions Wall Stories: Children's Wallpaper and Books and Artist-Designed Wallpapers. His talk will explore the history of wallpaper, as well as unusual wallpaper repeats and themes.
